The city of Atlanta was originally an American Indian village called Standing Peachtree. It was sold by the Cherokee and Creeks in 1822, and first known as Decatur. During the rebuild, the city was promoted as the "New South" to investors, and was considered to be built on modern economical principals and less on agriculture.

To this day, there have been several key elements that have shaped Atlanta, including Sports (Atlanta had the 1996 Summer Olympics), Entertainment and Performing Arts (the largest, and most well-known graphics design institute is located in the heart of the city), and tourism (the Georgia Aquarium). Many southern cities have been shaped by their culture and sports, and Atlanta is no different.
